Re: Mercruiser Shopping list

I'm confused, do Alpha1 GenII engines not have a cutout switch? When I bought my boat, the cutout switch was broken in half. A good bit of PVC glue and some stiff wire and she seems good as new.. but as of yet untested, so I may be shopping for one soon enough. I do see them on ebay once in a while, though. Some looking better than others..

Guys, this is not a "Shift Interrupt Switch" thread. If you have questions about them, start your own thread. This thread is about Cantaris looking for a new drive and transom shield.

Ok so I came across this craigs list ad for an alpha one. Is what they are saying about the gear ratio correct or not? For my 350 or is the gear ratio supposed to be 1.50. What would the harm be if used?

This outdrive came off of a 19' SeaRay that I am parting out. The gear ratio is 1.65:1, and will work on the smaller V-8's as well as the inline 6 cylinders, and maybe others with the right prop. Included also is the prop that is on it that is in like new condition. The boat had not been registered since 1990, and the people that I purchased it from said that they got it from her mom and dad, and that the Ford 302 V-8 motor and outdrive had been completely rebuilt, and then it was only used a couple times after that. I was also told that this boat was used in a freshwater lake only in New York, so has not seen any saltwater use. There is a small piece missing on the lower part of the skag, but will not affect the use of it.

NO, they are selling to anyone that buys and could care less if there info is correct or not.

You want a 1.50 Gear ratio for a 350.
I would strongly suggest NOT buying a used drive off ebay or the likes. You have absolutely no way of knowing condition.
When I lived in Alaska, I always had custmers bringing in dirves to check out that they found cheap off ebay. Probably 90% were junk. Even had some that weren't even the same manufacturer the guy buying it needed.
He needed a Volvo, and ended up with an OMC.

Be VERY careful.
