Ok, today is one of those days, you want to forget. My 1996 Stingray boat has a 96 Mercruiser with the Alpha 1 outdrive. It does not have fuel injection. It ran fine today for the first hour. I had to tow a boat in because of motor problems. Afterwards, I traveled a couple of minutes and noticed a clicking noise when the engine was acclerated. When I backed off it went away. I then went to slow down to dock and the motor shut off. I then went to crank it, and I heard a terrible noise from the engine. It sounded terrible. Another crank, and all I heard was the starter hum. It's a given about the starter, but is there something going on with the motor. I hope it has not locked up. I had it serviced 2 days prior. It had been properly winterized before being parked for the winter.
Like Don says, the # of cylinders would be helpful...<br />First, I would pull the plugs & see if it will turn over at all with a socket & breaker bar on the crank pulley bolt....<br />Any signs of water in the cylinders?<br />Next I would pull the valve covers & visuallly inspect the rocker arms & push rod area.....JK
