I recently purchased a boat with a 4.3 mercruiser in it,I am new to boating so when i took it out for the first time I noticed that at higher speeds that the boat would always lean to the left(not pull). After getting boat back home I checked over stern drive and bolt on hydrafoil is in good shape and so is prop.
but something I did notice was a disc mounted under where hydrofoil is between it and prop and it looks like it might have been a little fin but I am not sure because whatever it was it is broke off now.Could this be my problem or is this just something else that needs repaired also?
Thanks in advance for any help

Re: mercruiser stern drive questions

I think your leaning problem is poor weight distrubution. I had the same problem. when sitting still all was well but underway the boat leaned bad to the port side. I evened out the (people) weight and all is well now. Is your fuel tank center lined or offset this is an issue also. Try moving the weight around and that should help. With your hydrofoil I dont think they are not to popular on these boards so you might get some heck. Hear there bad on the outdrive. The broken part you are talking about is called a trim tab. Dont get it confused with other trim tabs, im not familiar with them or what they do so I will leave it at that. They are on overtons for 12.99 Im sure I-boats have them too.

The torque tab that he is referring to(just above the prop) makes it easier to steer boats that do not have power steering. Your 4.3 has power steering, so the flat plate is all that is needed(although a tab wouldn't hurt anything) just make sure you something there as it is one of your sacrificial annodes.
