I have a 2000 bayliner 1954 capri with a 135hp mercruiser. I am currently revamping the interior of the boat. I have basically gutted the boat and i am ready to begin measuring for new side panels and decking but i have one obstacle, I can't get the throttle appart. Because i can't get it apart, one of the side panels is just dangling there untill I figure it out. I have heard that the button pops off, the one that disengages forward and reverse to rev the boat up, and it should come apart. I have taken every screw imaginable out of that thing and it is still extremly tight. I have been around boats my entire life but I have never taken a trottle apart. Can anyone give me some advice on how to tackle this problem? And yes i know that taking it to a certified mechanic would be my best option, but I am a college student and I dont have the funds for that at this point. Thanks for any advice!!!!!

What control do you have? Picture would help.

Push the "Throttle Only" button and move the lever to full reverse. Button should pull right out. Then you'll see a bolt in the center of the handle. Remove the bolt and the handle will pull right out.

On the Teleflex I just installed, the button is actually just a rubber cover that you peel out with your nail and has a plastic plunger inside of that. The bolt that holds the lever to the mounting plate is behind that. Don't know if this helps but worth a try?
On my old Merc/teleflex that I pulled out I had to do as mentioned above, full reverse and the button came out, exposing the bolt. You might have to put in back in neutral for the gear to lock and thus allowing you to loosen it.

If you loosen the nut, you may need needle nose pliers to pull it out. Once the nut is removed, the handle should come off...
