i was wondering if anyone has done this? i'm looking at an old 78 thompson hull, it was fitted with a mercruiser. my boat has a volvo aq125b w/270 leg. my question is about the merc hole, whats the difference? I believe i've read that its smaller than a volvo hole, atleast in older models like mine. i would also like to know about the hole placement. is there a difference between how far down the two legs extend, basically would using the same hole work with my leg or does it need to go up or down? thanks in advance

thanks alot Don. Do I need to consider the leg length? i mean, if i cut the bigger hole, and set it up with the volvo leg is it good to go?

Re: mercruiser to volvo swap

You have to have the Volvo cutout in the proper location so the centerline of the crankshaft (know as the X dimension) is in the right place and perfectly straight up and down.
Here is a link to the cutout template. I would strongly suggest you order one from your Volvo dealer, as it's full size and you can tape it to the transom so things will be properly located.
