My 888 (R drive)has a trim cylinder that isn't working. I took the outdrive off and was checking the cylinders. It appears tyo be getting fluid, but will not move under its own power. With the drive on, the drive raises fairly easily, but the one cylinder struggles to pull the drive down and forcing the other cyl. in. Does anyone have any ideas? I'm guessing that the cyl. needs a rebuild kit, but is it possible to temporarily fix it? I just rebuilt the engine and will be starting it up and brteaking it in tomorrow (Sat).

If you can get the outdrive all the way down. Run it. Just no trim. I didnt think trim cyl pulled in that hard. I thought they used the weight of the outdrive to force them in(maby a little help from the pump) but I could be wrong. If so sorry.

You are pretty close. It needs help to get down without running the trim pump twice as long as necessary. How hard is it to rebuild these things?

By the way F'in, tomorrow is start-up day wish me luck. Now, if I can just figure that neutral switch wiring out......

Jason, before you rebuild it double check that the hydraulic hoses have not been installed in the wrong port. I had a similar problem with my 74 mercruiser, turns out the previous owner had swapped the lines.
I am reading this late Sunday, but I see by your posts you had a succesful run, makes it all worthwhile :)

Oddly enough, it seems to work after another bleeding and hooking them back up. ?????
