Ok, down to business... I put the leg serial number in the parts program and it came up as a 1982, MC-1, 1.50:1... all the right things!

Nothing to do with a 470... Who told you that?
Have you got the engine serial number handy?
Maybe you could set them up in your signature, like mine... Then when you post questions, you don't have to remember to put all the details in the post... it falls there automatically

, use Mercury High Performance Gear Oil... same for both housings, as they are connected together... Remove the drain screw, at the bottom of the gear housing, and the oil monitor bottle hose from the driveshaft housing, then push the oil into the gear housing until it starts coming out of the vent hole in the driveshaft housing. Put the screw back in the bottom, the hose back in the top and fill the monitor bottle... job done
