A lot of people say that the vazer was heavy but that is not true, It was 25 lbs heavier than a BF100 so not bad and it does not hang off the transom so if you only need 100hp this was a very low profile light package with a lot of new innovations. Personally I think merc put it out to prepare for the future. What the vazer did was keep the exhaust dry and hot right until it is going through the transom. This allows for things like catalytic converters and exhaust gas return. If the emissions folks really target boats in the future i.e. no NOx and no zinc allowed in the water (BRP is gone) and no outboard to date will be able to run that clean. The future is coming and this inexpensive innovative unit gave merc some real good real-world test data. At some point the Greeny's in California are going to say no NOx and no Zinc or organic zinc compounds and the industry will be turned upside down.
It is discontinued but they would have learned a lot
