I have read the stickys and hope that I post my question clearly enough to get help. I tried to research it and I must saw I am very impressed with the knowledge on this forum.

I have a mercruiser 350 engine serial number tag located above starter say D842217, with a bravo 2 out drive. I know in sticky the boat make doesnt matter but it is a 1993 Rinker 260vee. I believe it to be a 350 mag but not sure the difference between a reg and mag. Anyways 2 years ago i took the boat to a reputable service dealer and had new impeller, bellows, shift cable, gimble bearing installed. Due to life i never took the boat out once after the service. It was winterized properly and so this summer i took the muffs out to start it up to get ready for the summer season. I noticed that that risers were getting too hot to touch and that the temp gauge was reading in the 190's. I also noticed that while running on muffs that there is no water coming from the prop hub area or basically anywhere (no discharge). I would think that the brand new impeller would be working properly but nothing surprises me anymore. What steps should i take to make sure that my engine cools properly, i.e. how do i check impeller and since it should be good what would be step 2. Please have patience with me for I am not the most boat engine savey guy, but I am not afraid to get dirty and try. Thanks in advance.

Hey buddy ,about the only way to check the cond of a raw water impeller next to actually removeing the pump and open it up is to remove the belt that drives the pump and turn the pulley by hand . What ya wanna look for is a snug resistance when turning the pulley. Most all drive pulley's such as alt ,circ pump ,power steer etc will for the most part spin freely. However on the raw water pump when the impeller is in a decent operational condition the blades on the impeller drag against the wall inside the pump hsg. This causes resistance when turning the pulley by hand. It sounds like it heated up pretty quick witch could mean your missing several blades. If this is the case that pulley will turn by hand with little or no resistance at all. What i find with these impellers is the blades on it wont wear out so much as over time they get brittle an break off. The impeller blades on the gen 2 drives are fat an meaty where bravo impellers have thin tall blades. You can also remove the two hoses off the back of the pump an point em downward toward the bilge an most of time pieces of rubber will fall out the hose. Either way i highly recomend replaceing bravo impellers every season because of this. I hope this helps ya a lil bit. Please excuse my spelling an typing skills. Good luck

Thanks for the reply Deese, I guess I should hope that is the fix cause its not too hard nor expensive. It does seem like its not picking up the water from the muff and bringing it thru the engine. Well i guess tomorrow will be visit my local parts place and play boat doctor. thanks again and I still welcome any other ideas as well.
