thanks that all makes sense.. sometimes I think I know things.. but it's just nice to hear someone who knows more than myself say what I thought I knew, before I tear into it!

Thats why gears set come as sets.

People always want to know if one or 2 teeth are missing from one gear can they replace just the one gear. No the gear set must be replaced.

I knew that.. thats also why you usually have or put alignment marks on the two gear so they go back in the same spot with the same wear pattern. see this all seems pretty simple.. I was just worried at first that I was going to tear this thing apart buy $250 in parts and find out I was way in over my head.. thats why I asked you guys for a little help letting me know what I was getting into.. but it seems like just making sure I have the right tools, setting my gears properly, and double checking everything in the manual , and I should be good to go..

One more question for the guru's.. my splines are broken off into my uppershaft. am I looking at taking the gear box apart too or would I be able to remove that with and "easy out" or some similar contraption? I'd love not to take the upper apart at all if I can get out of it?

The whole unit upper and lower must have new seals.

See where do you think all the little metal pieces are going to lodge??

In the seals and then maybe circulate latter and cause a gear to go.

Nope gonna do it, do it right.

That whole case got to come apart and cleaned out good. Nothing for sure left to mess you up latter.

they should just fall out. If it doesn't, and its a PITA to remove... You want to have a real good look of the female side of the spline connection. Make sure nothing is twisted up there.

Yeah.... I knew it was wishfull thinking. I already planned on tearing it apart but I just thought maybe one of you guys would say I didn't have to:) the upper will get done too then...
