Hi every one i have a 2002 trophy with a 5.7 mercruser in it and the water circ pump hase never been replaced from past owner. was wondering how often should they be replaced
I've replaced water pumps when the vanes inside get wore down and having cooling issues but normally only when the they start leaking like Bondo says. I'm assuming your talking about the water pump on the 5.7 and not the lower unit water pump.
There is no scheduled replacement interval for any hose on Mercruiser engines. But if you spend any time in "the brine" as Bond-O refers to it and aren't religious in flushing, you might think about changing it. Relatively cheap.
I have a rule I use with every new to me used boat I have ever owned. Before it ever hits the water in my ownership I start with a new circulator pump as well as transom kit and manifolds and drive service. When in doubt...Change it out....Charlie
Be sure to use marine parts, I believe the backplate is stainless (and that's the expensive part). Impeller is different too. maybe you can save your backplate for the new, or rebuilt pump.
