mercruser propshaft oil seal replacement?

i have a 89 4.3 with a mercruser outdrive just got the boat and the propshaft seal was out of it got the pro off everthing down to the bearing housing.. was woundering if i should take the porpshaft all the way out and any tricks i need to know when putting it back together i am not very experinced with boats but mechanicly inclined. also the end of the shaft will move around left and right about 2-3 inches not up and down ON THE PROP END but not near the foward and reverse gears is this normal ok? here are some pics everthing lookd great..

you cant pull that shaft out without removing the vertical shaft pinion gear first.just reseal the prop shaft carrier and put it back together
