mercrusier 5.7 overheats at idle

first of all a thanks to all that contribute here now for my question 5.7 alpha one 1990 yr only gets hot at idle boat was fresh water only untill i bought it two months ago am i looking at the impeller or something else i do not let it get over 180 i bring up the rpms and it cools right down again thanks for all the info here
