Googled all around at no avail. Researched and found that old gas could be the problem. Went in and siphon the gas and put brand new gas in and still no luck. Engine dose turn but does not start up. Unfortunely last summer we started having issues where all of the sudden going at a decent speed it shuts off.. needs a few starts to get it running again. Today, we ran it for the first time since last summer. Any ideas? bought in 2010, hardly used maybe less than 30 times. Oil looks clean, battery recenetly replaced..

Have you checked for spark? The ign modules can fail at any time.

Also, alot of those MerCruisers had shift assist switches that kill spark, if they do not spring back. Look where the upper shift cable meets the lower shift cable, on top of the engine block. It is a triangle-shaped thing, with a microswitch. Make sure it is centered.
