I am looking at an 18' larson bowrider with a mercruiser 140, was wondering what I could expect as far as performance. we like to ski and tube alot. down sizing from a 200hp merc outboard so I know it will be different but will it do what we want to do? have a family of kids from 2years to 11 years and maybe 350lbs between my wife and I. total family weight would be about 700lbs. any input would be great.

Ayuh,...

It's only 140hp, but properly Propped,..
It should keep you,+ the family entertained...

as Bondo said.... this boat is not going to be a speed demon.
140hp in an 18ft boat isn't to bad in itself.... but when you put 4 people in the boat and pull a tube behind it... your really stressing that engine.
If you get the boat your really going to want to put a 4 bladed prop on it.

going from 200hp to 140. i think you'll be disappointed in the performance. most folks wanna go faster, not slower. my slightly tired 165hp L6 in my 19' boat gets me up to 42 mph and has a good hole shot w/ two people on board and some gear (19P alum. prop). add a couple people, and it gets less desirable. just takes longer to get on plane. aside from the performance, the 140 would be easier on fuel i'd think.. that'd be a plus these days... on the other hand. you'll be running the 140 harder (closer to wot) than the 200 though. so the fuel consumption savings may not be as good as it might be...

I would try to find one with a 4.3L V6 at least, my 04 has the 4.3L carb, 190hp, it handles well with just me and wife or me,wife, daughter and two grandkids pulling a tube as well. I won't knock the 3.0L but I will say you will be happier with at least the 4.3L, fuel consumption will be about the same or maybe less with the 4.3L since it will not have to work as hard.
