I have a mercruiser 260 outdrive with a 350 chevy. It has been hard starting lately. I put in a new points and condenser and a key switch.
Here is what happens, never had this problem in 10 years of owning the boat....
It seems to start fine when it is cold. When I get to the lake and run it for a while and shut it off it doesn't want to start again while cranking the engine. If I crank the engine over and quickly turn the key back to the run position it fires right up without hesitation. I wasn't sure If there is a problem in the wiring or solinoid. Has anyone had a similar problem and been able to resolve it? Thanks for the input.

sound like your not getting spark when cranking. you will have to check wires from key switch. They might run two wires. Have someone crank when you hold a test light on power side of coil to see if there is power.

Could the remote solenoid be the problem? The wiring looks to be okay...

Ok just checked battery voltage on both batteries and it is at 12.9 volts. On the slave solenoid I show 12.3 coming in. On the "I" side of the solenoid I show 4.3 volts. On the "s" there is nothing, but I assume that is because the engine isn't being cranked. With the 8 volt drop on the I side does that mean it is the slave solenoid?

The s should have power while cranking only and the i should be 12 volts as far I have seen. Try putting 12 volts to the wire and see if she fires. If it fires it is definetly the solenoid
