I have a 1988 115. Read several threads on check out. They talk about a DVA tester. I have a digital multi meter will it work??? I do not get any reading close to what they are saying. I started with a new stator. the resistance readings are correct. But no DVA readings. (Well 4 volts once) I got a 1 cylinder spark tester with the following results. After checking all of the cylinders I get sparks on #2 & #6 with the yelow & black disconected and I still get a spark with the yellow and black connected to the top switch box but no spark when connected to the bottom switch box. My understanding is when the yellow and black are grounded out it lose spark and shuts off. The mercury switch always seems to be grounded. I thought the mercury switch is open when the motor is upright? If I have a basic under standing the stator creates the voltaged stored in the switch box and then the trigger sends a signal to let the spark go. Maybe I am over simplifing it but is that the general picture? Any ideas the warm weather is here and I'd love to get out on the water.
