Hello
On Mercury straight 6 cylinder "towers of power" are the powerheads interchangeable with the exhaust toes -- and if so between what years ?

I have a 1987 Mercury 115 HP with low compression on #1 cylinder due to the Autoblend oil mixer not functioning and destroying my block.

I'm currently looking for any replacement straight 6 Mercury engine - My boat is rated for a 125 HP so was wonder it any other years powerheads would bolt on to my 1987 exhaust toe - just rebuilt it and hate to part it out.

First of all, it is unlikely the autoblend malfunction would cause an issue with only one cylinder. It is much more likely that the engine overheated or ran with lean mixture or overadvanced timing. Why not just rebuild cylinder one (clean the carbs and link and synch) rather than buy a new powerhead?

I would think that most inline six powerheads from '84 and up would bolt up.

I'm finding the cost of a rebuild is more than some whole boat, motor, trailer package deals on craigslist -

I suspected the autoblend because I was not having to add very much oil to the reservor either way the autoblend is now removed - carbs were cleaned fuellines primerbulb antisipon valve and pickup tube and screen were replaced - I will now mix it the 50:1 myself.

either way what ever caused it I found the #1 cylinder to be at 49 PSI when the rest were all above 129 PSI

Motor still runs - just hard to start and idle misses -kills when put in gear
