Re: Mercury 115 Will not go over 2200 HP
The troubleshooting guides say that if the readings are out of spec the stator MUST be replaced. I tested one that was only a few hundred ohms high-out-of-spec and it had identical symptoms. A week later the winding went from 6400+ ohms to over 14,000 ohms. Just from the motor sitting in the sun and getting hot I expect.
Anyway, sounds like your stator is on the verge of total failure and when it gets warm is breaking down. I bet if you took resistance readings right after the failure it'd be worse.
I got a CDI replacement stator and it worked fine.
www.boatfix.com has pretty good deals on the 174-5456 stator for ADI Inline Mercs.
