Mercury outboard 1150 115hp inline 6 Starter Help (serial # 4735457) I think this motor is a 1977 but not sure. It does have a distributor, so not sure what year they stopped putting distributors on them. I need help determining which starter I need to buy for this? I contacted a vendor with my serial and info and he said this model was sold with 3 different starters and they were not interchangeable...so having a hard time ordering one, since I don't have the old one to get part numbers or configuration from. This motor has the closed bottom stepped cup that the starter sits in with 2 bolts on front/side to split the cup in half for starter installation with no bolt holes in bottom underside of cup. Top mount/ring has 2 bolts on front/side as well to split the mount in half for installation.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
thanks

Rob, The serial number will give the exact part number. That vender is incorrect.

Look on the Maxrules.com web site and get the correct year by serial number. Now go to crowleymarine.com and look up the parts list for that year motor and get the correct starter part number. There may be some serial groups for that starter, but use your serial number to figure it out.

I will bet you will find the plain vanilla ARCO replacement for the inline and V6 motors is the one you want, by your descrition. If you have a marine store that has the ARCO starter motors, you can match it up. Count the number of teeth, as that is important as well.

you can also take your ser # to your local Merc dealer and they can tell you which one you need. My parts dealer got me one cheaper than I could buy it anywhere else.

Ok thanks! The Maxrules.com site was a big help. 1977 115hp ELPT. I got the number and ordered an aftermarket starter from emsglobaldirect for $73, which is all I can safely spend on a starter for this untill I see that it will actually run.
thank you for the help
