I was hoping to get some advice on a crack I discovered in my '77 mercury 1150 block. I have pictures that show a small crack going from two cooling areas. The gasket leads me to believe that I can live with crack, however I wanted some advice before I moved on with my rebuild. Unfortunately due to my newbie status, the forum is saying I can't attach photos. Let me know if you can offer some advice and I'll pm the photos

That motor has two external water jacket covers. One over the exhaust and one over the head. Stick a piece of electrical tape over it. If it doesn't leak, you are probably fine. If course, water jackets do not usually crack. What caused your issue?

Still working through the picture thing.. sorry for the delayed response. The crack is under the head external water jacket cover at the bottom of the block (below the sixth cylinder). There is a passage to the bottom that goes from the gasket surface through to the bottom of the block. The thin space between the head area and this passage has the small crack.

Again, sorry a picture would be a thousand words. It is more a chunk that looks like someone in there before may have chipped it with something.
