I'm looking at buying a new Mercury. But I have this one ? though. Why does merc have a 115 and 125 built the same. Looking at the statistics everything looks the same or am I missing something? The only thing I see is the #'s on the bonnet is different. and about $300 cash. So does a guy save $300. or go with the 125?
Can someone explain this to me?

rl,
Well is 15HP+/- worth $300 to you. I don't know the real horsepower of either. What are they allowed? 10%leeway +/-?
The difference is carbuerators?,exhaust tuning? or something like that. ;)

The 125 has bigger venturi's in the carb's. There is some industry standard that regulates horsepower rating so the extra 10 Hp should be real.

Thanks guys but that makes sense. So they're actually making it up in the carbs to get the extra hp. out of the same motor. Now is a guy going to tell the difference with a extra 10 horse? But I guess it comes back to is it worth the extra $300. What would you guys do or buy? :)

My opinion is, this is the cheapest horsepower you will ever buy on a outboard. If you think you will ever wish for more power, then buy it now! or you will be one of the many on this board asking how they can increase horsepower, as if you could bolt on a 4-barrel Holly or something, these aint car engines friends. Do your homework, and get the adequate power the first time, you wont see too many complaints about to much power, just dont exceed the boats rated horspower.
