mercury 150 hp dies under wot help!!

just bought a boat with this 150 hp mercury ser#4602427

put the boat in lake, started just fine, ran about 30 mins just fine
shut off, started great, move to low speed ok, wot motor dies. restarted ok,
runs on side lever ok, but when advancing throttle any where above idle speed motor dies, but restarts great. any help would be great, thanks

Sounds like a dirty fuel system, check filter, high speed jets, a bad tank vent or fuel pump could also cause the problem. You can ck the pump part by using the fuel line bulb to see if it picks up RPM when squeezing the bulb

After you checked the fuel system and it still dies, check the wiring under the flywheel and all over for breaks. Easy to do. Just pull gently on each wire. If it feels solid, good, if the wire stretches any at all, you have a break inside the insulation. I've seen this a few times.

The timing system physically moves the trigger harness quite a bit. Often a source of trouble, especially if someone in replacing a switchpack or even a diode doesn't pay real close attention to the way it lays when installing the tie straps.

i finally removed the top carb. cleaned with carb cleaner, reinstalled
now it purres like a kitten, under wot
