so i do not know much about boats. this boat was given to the church for our use. until this summer has not been ran much the last 5 years. the last time i took it out it was hard to crank but then seemed to run fine. then the other day i noticed this, looked like some kind of plastic cover had melted off.

what'd i ruin?

Re: Mercury 150 max problem

You are missing the cover for the clamp which secures the lower engine mount,

Here is a schematic of the parts from a 1985 150 as you haven't identified your year or s/n.

See item 11, under DRIVE SHAFT HOUSING AND EXHAUST TUBE.

Gerry

thanks

so is there a reason why it would melt off? does it affect anything else? can i just replace the cover and go back to boating?

is it possible that the exhaust seal between gear case and driveshaft housing is compromised

How do you know it melted, did you find a blob of plastic? What does the other side look like?

yes

and i did not want to mess up anything else.

a pastor friend from india was driving the boat and hit a rock. that might have broke or cracked the plastic to cause it to fall off and then the remaining plastic along the bottom edge melted? i don't know? it may have been like that since we got the boat at the beginning of the summer and i just didn't notice.

edit: and yes the other side is fine
