I have a 1988 Mercury 150XR4. When first starting and running the motor it works great. After about 10-15 minutes it slowly dies down until it cuts off. By this I mean it gradually runs slower and worse (sounds like running on 3 cylinders) for approximately a minute or so and then shuts down completely. After about 10 minutes it will start again but will only run at idle speed. If I increase the throttle it will shut off.
Stator, Trigger, Water Pump, Impeller, and Spark Plugs have all been replaced but to no avail. Motor still does the same thing. I need help.....
charlie........

Re: Mercury 150 running problem

Try pumping the primer bulb when the motor is running and see if it stays running. If it does you probably need to rebuild the fuel pump. Sounds fuel related to me. Good luck and let us know.
CU

----------------------
RUNNING THE MOTOR WHILE LISTENING TO THE HORN WILL MAKE YOU MORN!!

And all fuel lines and primer bulb should be soft and pliable.

Boy, that sure sounds like what it is.

Maybe bees built a nest in the vent tube.

Losen the tank cap and see if that takes care of it.

I had a similar problem. After replacing a ton of parts, I peeked into the fuel tank to see a leaf and debris clogging the pick up tube. Ran sweet after that.
