I have a motor that is supposed to be a mercury v150 serial number 4734103 and according to mercury's serial number lookup this motor was never made, does anyone have any idea why this is the case and if this motor is what it is supposed to be?

I also have a 150 Optimax, vintage 2006 that I bought new/used from a dealer. Reason I say new/used, it was supposedly used by Mercury as a "classroom trainer"...i.e., taken apart then reassembled. The dealer put the normal warranty (3yrs) on it but I decide one day to register it on line...surprise, same as you experienced, "no record" of this s/n. I called the dealer and he said he didn't know the reason but that the warranty is in force and he will honor it. Well, since I know the dealer as reputable, I did not pursue it further. The motor is designated "Pacemaker" on the Bill of Sale.

Bassin89, are you sure that is your engine serial number as that number doesn't seem to be a typical number without having access of looking it up at the moment.
Any chance of posting a good photo of the serial number ?

Alion, i do believe It would be in your better interest to call mercury customer service to confirm registry was completed properly so that should you have a problem away from your normal dealer that will honor your warranty, someone else may not be able to as easily if it's not showing up in the computer system. If i recall correctly, Mercury had a completely different protocol when it came to registry with Merc service school engines and related equipmen.

Obviously is a V6. Probably first year production. Could be a warranty service block. In any case knowing the exact serial number isnt going to do you much practical good. Its a V6 and its probably a 150 and early V6 parts will probably fit it.

-If it is an inline 6 cylinder it looks to be a 1977 model.------Is it possible that it is a V175 different cowling.

The 175 scenario is possible because I can't find where the part number(76637a1) was ever used on a 150, all of the applications for it show that it was only used on 175s. Sorry for my ignorance but is there any way to tell a difference between the two if the cowling has been swapped

What is the stamped in number on the carbs? Not the molded casting number.

Stamped set on the carbs says WH 1-1 and there's a plate on each carb that says 157-155

Youve got a 2 liter 1750 aka 175 HP. More than likely 1977 ish . When they changed the rating system that pretty much turned into a prop rated 150 HP motor.
