mercury 150 v6 missing

my mercury 150v6 is stumbling , the boat will not plane or pick up speed. I found one bad coil on cylinder#5 replaced it . I have new plugs but I can feel it missing when I try to accelerate. I have a new rectifier on motor, it looked melted. do you think the fuel filter inside the fuel pump could be bad? I replaced the fuel lines they were bad. I bought this boat used ,I have never done any work on the carbs. what about my switch boxes could they be causing this problem. My compression is good. this motor will startup really nice ,I can really go fishing anywhere I want but when I step on my hotfoot she bogs down. It feels like the motor is missing it trys to surge forward. thank you steve

I have a 1995 150HP XR6 that had trouble similar to what you describe. The engine would start fine but bog down when trying to plane and would not gain full power. All electrical/ignition was good. Turns out that the bottom carb is the modulator for the other two. A dealer told me it was the modualtor valve that was bad but I didn't believe him instead I removed all three carbs and had them serviced for about 20.00/ea. The service tech told me that the carb I removed from the bottom was gunked up. I reinstalled them and went fishing with no troubles and full power. Hope this helps if your's is a carb model.

thanks for your info ,going to take this motor in this winter to have carbs worked on. any idea whay it might cost for a150 v6. I checked compression again todat it read 149 to 150 on all six cylinders this is good i hope. steve

You can easily do the carb job yourself. Just get a manual and it will be simple. Plus, if you do one job yourself the manual is already paid for.<br /><br />-andy
