I just purchased a 2004 Mercury 15EH 4 stroke. Is it true that the powerhead is made by Yamaha? The powerhead is gray instead of black. It does run great if anyone needs to know before they purchase one. Merc has 2 years extra warranty until 6/30/03. Thanks, dgs

Re: Mercury 15EH 4 stroke

It is very common that parts are used commonly. The whole Kiekhafer cooperation stretches widely. To keep costs of development and production low you see many examples as well in cars, boats and other lines. Inboard engines are almost always built on carparts (altered for marine use but still the same base) and outboards are trading parts as well. Mercury/Mariner/Yam has been doing this for years and over the last years Yam has done this a lot with many of their products (vehicles, electronics etc. etc.)

Being a Merc your motor is to be considered a 100% Merc regarding warranty, spares service and all.

Do you have any reservations agains Yam that would have prevented the purchase if you'd known?
