Mercury 15HP what year?

Just bought a mercury outboard motor. That's about all i know about the motor.<br /><br />don't know the horse power, year or anything else.<br />is it possible to find all this infor with the serial number<br />Serial Number: 5208312<br /><br />thanks

oh yeah,, about the 15hp...it's just my guess that it's a 15 because of its size

It's a 1979 model..

<br />Reckon it's a 20.. don't think they Made a 15HP with a 520* number.

still a bit confused - is it a 9.9 or a 20?<br />what about the mixture, 50:1? 40:1?<br /><br />what are the usual things that go wrong with this mercury?

I wouldn't know the last owner painted the whole thing black. covering the outside stickers

I am buying a used 15 merc....with electric start om the tiller arm... Is there a way to tell what year it is?
