Have a 370v ranger (18ft) with a Mercury 175 black max and gps only 48-50 mph? Compression is good in motor on all cylinders

OK, what kind and pitch of prop, what RPM? Are you trimming the motor as much as possible? Where is the motor mounted on the transom?

That may be the max you can get.....

It's a 1990 Mercury, the Jack plate is all the way down, have not checked for spark but the boat is going in the shop soon to get carbs rebuilt and tune up. Just seen some guys going 60+ do not know exact Rpms or prop pitch. I do have a quicksilver prop 21p tho

I was getting 54-58 on a 17ft skeeter with a 86 150 black max, turning a 22p 13 3/4 4 blade prop. With only 100psi on each cylinder, so I would say that's a little low on your speed, probably just needs a tune up. In my opinion.

OK, I agree ---Rebuilding the carburetors will do the trick.---Big money for a shop to do that.----Hopefully you are asking the shop for a diagnosis first !---What if the rebuilt carburetors do not help here ?

Would 100psi be low ? And yes the shop will be doing a diagnosis first. I only got 90 psi cold. But the tester was a harbor freight one so idk how accurate it was

I have found scored pistons on cylinders that still read over 100 PSI.----Suggest you remove cylinder head to inspect cylinder with lowest compression.----If all is well it will cost you for a new head gasket.

Post a pic of powerhead and cylinder heads, This could be a older 2 L 175 and that's about all your going to get with that set up.
