Mercury 18hp vs 25hp Carb

G'day Gents!

I've purchased an 1983 Mercury 18hp and have been told the only difference from the 25hp version is the carb. Is this correct ? If so, what are the actual differences between the two carbs?...Venturi size, jetting?

That's correct..venture size,jetting and some 18hp had a restrictor in exhaust leg......

Thanks for your reply!.......So they're in effect different carbs. Can the exhaust restrictor be removed?

Yep ...2 bolts and remove plate..
