Mercury 18hp

We saw a Mercury 18hp for $500.00 the current owners say they received it through a family member (inherited it) 3 years ago. It has been sitting pretty much the whole 3 years and it wasa started up maybe twice on a garbage can full of water. Is this worth buying? From what I found they only made 18 hp for 5 years in the mid 80s. Any info would help. Thanks so much.

The NADA value on a 1980 18HP is Manual Start $135 and an electric start $140. This is average retail. That is not to say that that is all it is worth. If it is in good condition and runs good, you will have to decide if it is worth more to YOU. Hope this helps.<br />Bob
