Iam thinking of buying a Merc 1990 115 hp 2 stroke 4 cylinder and the owner says<br />"I made it about 1/2 mile from the dock and it quit. I had to wait, start it, go 200 feet quit, wait, start it, go 200 feet, ect...engine compression it was 140psi on three cylinders and 117psi on one cylinder" is this going to be a problem and what do you think mite be the problem with the quitting could it be a carb problem and how easy is it to find parts for that yr. <br />Thanks in advance for any info you can give

It needs an overhaul. Don't buy it unless you're prepared for that expense.

Re: mercury 1990 115hp question

Just thinking out loud if the ring was indeed stuck would spraying oil in the cylinder verify this on a compression test? Also dosen't the fuel pump use cylinder pressure to operate and if that is the low cylinder would it all tie together? Like I said just thinking aloud I am kinda new to outboards but pretty handy with Engines in general.<br />Glenn
