How do test the voltage regulator to see that it is working?
If it's a single voltage regulator, put a voltmeter on the battery. It should read a little over 12 volts before you start the engine, and press upward to 14 volts or so after starting and reving the engine.
If you have dual regulators, disconnect the yellow wires from them one at a time, and test the other one. Connect the tach to the one you're testing. (grey wire) The tach working is part of the test.
