Mercury 2.4 common problems

I finally got a motor for my boat yesterday! It's a 1988 Mercury 200. It already has a block off plate and is set up to run on premix. Are there any common problems with these engines or anything I could do to increase reliability? All I can seem to find is how to hop it up lol. Thanks.

These are chrome bore motors and very prone to cylinder damage from oil gear failure and overheating. If chrome is damage only reasonable fix is to resleeve...

Ok thanks. I read about removing the idle stabilizer. Should I do that?
