mercury 2 stroke 4.5 HP

My points are shot on this motor. I looked up two different sites and the price for one set of points ( single cylinder motor ) is 130 bucks! I was sure this was a misprint till I went to another site selling Mercury parts. I am obviously not going to pay that for a 10 dollar set of points for every motor ever made. Anybody got a work around or a more realisitc place to buy them. Its part 23 on the microfisch parts breakdown.

I think its in the 70's Its a 4.5 HP Merc, single cylinder US made serial number 6025774

Chaz this motor has an ignition module assembly, with condensers. It is not a points motor. IMA is $160.00 and condenser is around $40.

it has a set of points in it. I can take a picture if you want. I will check the above site but I checked the serial number numerous times.

Its part 23 on the Crowley site listed above as contac set for 133 bucks. They are points like in the older mowers. I just cant figure out why they are different than the 8 dollar ones I have bought over the past 30 years for mowers!

that part on E-Bay is not the right one. Its part 23 on the Crowley site. That looks to be the correct layout.

Yeah you're right, it has an IMA, points and condensers. Man that is one expensive little ignition system!

Think I am going to try to adapt an old set of points to this setup. I have about a dozen sets of points that look pretty close to the same size and shape as this one. If it works I will post it so others may benefit. If anybody knows any other solutions I am all ears!!!

The parts on ebay are p/n 336-4318A2 which is the p/n on the Crowley site, item 23, Contact set, p/n 336-4318A2.
