Mercury 200 HP Laser lower unit

Picked up an old bass boat pretty cheap from a friend that he thought the motor seized up on him. I pulled the lower unit and it turns over now, went to drain the oil from the lower unit and it was very watery. So whats the best way to do this? New lower unit or new motor?

Okay ill take a look, I have two questions now. #1 What do I measure to figure out what size shaft I have?
#2 Most of the oil and gas lines are shot... But some of them look super small and when I checked at the hardware store none of the gas lines were that small, but there were vacuum lines that might work or would they get eaten up?

Post a pic of motor and powerhead. A Laser only has a couple of small lines as it EFI, it sounds line you have a carb model with different cowl...

I will get some pictures up when I get home. It seems like most of the smaller lines are for the oil injection system, but i am planning on deleting that and mixing so I wont have to worry about them. But does anyone have info on what I would need for that kit?

I would get a used lower unit off ebay, which is what I did when I bought my boat with a merc 175hp with a bad lower. There are boat wreckers on ebay that sell them and offer a small warranty.

I saw some on there, are mercury lower units compatible? From what I saw the same was used for 150-200 hp? Is that right?

I just bought an SEI lower. Most of the used ones I found on eBay cost just as much as a new one from SEI. Plus I have no idea what kind of abuse the used ones have seen. Cheapest used I found was 700.00 with no warranty.

If memory serves, yes. The only difference is there are a couple different gear ratios and shaft lengths available. It's been several years since I've dived into it, but IIRC the 175 and 200 have a numerically lower gear ratio than the 150 however they will all physically interchange.

"normally"... 2.0 (135, 150) motors are 2 ta one, all others 2.4 and 2.5's are usually 1.87 ta 1..only exception is tha XR4/6.. they are 1.78 ta 1 and small (4 1/4") diameter case... ALL 2.0, 2.4, 2.5 V6 motors will bolt up as long as shaft length (L, XL, XXL) is same..

20" or "L"ong as its designated by Merc... 99% probability of it being tha 1.87 ta 1 gear which probably won't make a difference unless ya got tha (right) prop ta go with it.....

Okay thanks! Im going to start looking for one, and order my oil injection delete kit. Ohh and yesterday she fired right up!
