I think my 200 had a piston lock up on me. It's a 1987 year model it looks and ran great. I think it had been bored out before, can it be rebuilt even if it has been rebuilt before?

that is gonna be a "chrome bore" motor... can't be bored in stock form.. they hafta have a "steel sleeve" installed (which if its been rebuilt before probably has been done in one or more cylinders) or go through an expensive re-plating deal that hardly anyone (rebuilding one) has done any more......

So if it has been sleeved before can it be done again if it's the same cylinder?

If it has a sleeve in one cylinder, will that piston be a diff size from the others?

What would be the best route to take with the rebuild considering it may have happened before?

Sorry for all the questions just trying to get my head wrapped around it.

Thanks

first thing would is check ALL tha holes for steel.. needs ta be done if ya plan on a re-ring with tha rest of tha "fix".. should be done anyway 'cause ya gotta take it all tha way down ta fix tha one bad hole no mater what.. reason being tha chrome uses different rings than steel.. check 'em with a magnet if ya can't tell by lookin'..

tha steel may be able ta be bored and not need replacin'... you can mix different size pistons in any V6 without a problem but... my own preference is no larger than 15 over with tha efi motors.. lotsa folks run bigger but I don't trust tha ecu's factory fuel curves!.. there is a reason Merc doesn't offer anything larger tha 15 over for tha efi motor..

main thing ya GOTTA HAVE is tha machinist... his work will make or brake tha fix.. automotive is generally a no-no......

and yes, it can be re-sleeve, bored and honed back to standard with any if necessary....

another thing is cost.. a good rebuild ain't cheap when done right which you need ta consider with tha age of that motor....a patch is just that.. a patch................jmo

Thank you for your info.

Am I ever going to be able to get a good quality fix with a rebuild vs a whole new power head?

If so what is the right way to go about the rebuild I don't want to patch it, I want this to last a long time!

I of course want to go as cheap as I can but I know quality costs.

I will need to find the service manual also.

Again thanks for your help.
