Recently had a new powerhead installed. Proceeding through break-in period. Engine runs fine (3500-4500rpm) on lift at 30-45 min. duration but under load the engine stalls out after 10-15 minutes and continues to stall on the way back to the dock. Is this a fuel or electrical problem? Strong stream and does not appear to be overheating.

Sounds like fuel to me. Check things over, and make sure there are no fuel restrictions, and that you have proper fuel pump pressure.

You may have a problem with fuel system and thats why 1st one failed. On a EFI engine all injectors need to be cleaned, flowed and tested along with the ECU parameters checked as same problem will occur again.

Re: Mercury 225 EFI stalling problem

resolution to problem: Removed fuel tank; it was pin clean. Then moved through fuel system. Inline filter was also clean. Progressed through system until Eureka; small particles of plastic in the water separator at the engine. So back we go and the problem was found to be two sections of gray fuel line on either side of the ball. The demon ethanol had degaded the interior lining of the fuel line and those particles had come to rest in the filter. So the fuel line was replaced and the engine now runs perfect. so please check all gray fuel line if you have a stalling problem.

That gray fuel line is well known for liner separation with ethanol.
It doesn't take long either...I needed to replace a short piece of line from primer bulb to engine and had a brand new piece of the Merc gray crap on hand...lasted all of 10 minutes before falling apart and plugging the filter.

Mercury has a new low permeation line available that stands up to the ethanol just fine.
