Is there a difference (powerhead wise) in a mid 80's 25 XD vs a early 90's 25?

Was the bore/stroke the same?

No not really.---------XD was a marketing thing.---------Led folks to believe it was built for extra duty ( XD )----Some of these engines were built with a chrome plated bore and when things go wrong there it can be big $$ to repair.

Ok thank you! By physically comparing the two they look identical. I wondered if it was marketing, similar to OMC's orange painted Stingers years ago.

OMC also marketed a commercial line of motors and powerhead parts are the same as the recreational motors.----All marketing hype.

About the only other difference you will find is the ignition switchbox on the newer motors. The switchbox will have different wire connections and maybe the mounting of them. Other wise they are the same except for some of the bores as Racer has stated. JMO
