Didn't you already move the motor off to one side of the transom to see if the keel was causing the problem?

I tried it over a bit but didn't seem to make any difference. Is there an easier way to check this engine at speed? The guy from the shop said a long shaft required. I am just hoping to find a way to make it work, I don't have the extra to spend for a long shaft and am told nothing wrong with this either would pump water or it wouldn't, the second guy to look the engine over says the keel must be causing the air, does that sound right? Is there like a plate or something to try?

Yes the motor can be lowered, but the pic you supplied showed that the motor shouldn't have anything in the way and would be very deep if moved slightly over.

I am not really sure what else to try if not, I guess it has to be the wake from the boat as every other time the motor behaves well in the tank, I cannot even think of another easy way to test it?

Re: Mercury 3.3hp tell tale problem

Hi there, I have decided on trying a bracket and ordered this one Force 4 Fixed Outboard Bracket - Only ?48.95 - Force 4 Chandlery as I thought it would probably be the most in keeping the look of the boat, a couple of people I spoke with thought it very odd about the way it wouldn't pump whilst moving at speed and suggested it has to be the keel causing the disruption from the v shape. I was just thinking would it matter if this engine sits a lot lower so the top exhaust exit is submerged? I really hope this works as two separate outboard shops have tested the motor and I'm told there isn't anything wrong with it. Any thought on the exhaust port at all please?

Re: Mercury 3.3hp tell tale problem

Update on my situation, seems I have the on going issue with this, after independently having it checked gain with another outboard shop and having the motor given the all clear I decided to try the bracket to lower it in the water - (see last 6 photos here) https://skydrive.live.com/?cid=41D8FE840AACFEB8&id=41D8FE840AACFEB8!126 I tried it yesterday and it is still the same, the only real good thing about this bracket was hat it allowed me to fully rotate the engine so that the pick ups were facing away from the boat (effectively in reverse) and it still had a problem with the tell tale when revving up. So it looks like I will have to try new pump seal kit to see if that would make the difference. This is a strange one, any advice always well received
