I'm working on the above 4.5 HP Merc and can't match to the serial number to a year. I need a water pump. Can someone please advise the year and a good site to find the water pump impeller?

Mercury 4.5 HP serial A192852 its all black with a metal cover, seems pretty old.

Thanks, Bill

I find no 4.5s with an A-anything serial number. If the A is a 4, then it's a 1975 called a 45.

The "A" is an "A" I double checked - I's say its in the 70's and is made in USA.

That specific serial number comes up on mercurypartsexpress ok for exploded diagrams.

Serial Number: 0A192852 Model Number: 1005205

Its a single cylinder 4/4.5 hp motor.

I say its a 1982

I'm having this same issue. The Serial number on my Mercury 4.5 is "A138542" clearly displayed on the identification plate. I tried Mercury parts express but mine did not show. It is a long shaft and I'm assuming an '82 as well. If anyone has more information on these mystery serial numbers I would like to know.

Re: Mercury 4.5 HP A192852 can't find year ????

First year for Mercury 4.5 hp was 1975 and the last year was 1985.

If it has a driveshaft diameter at the impeller of .456 it is a 75 to 79 model.
If it has a driveshaft diameter at the impeller of .438 it is a 80 to 85 model.
Through 1978 it was named (on the cowl) 45.
1979 and later it was named 4.5.

There are two different sized impellers for the 4.5/45s. Might not hurt to mic the shaft before you order if you can't nail down the year. I don't show any Merc 4.5hp with an 'A' prefix SN in my book.

Ratherbesailing2;

I sent you a pm as the two posts you have answered are out of date by years. The mods will not be happy but I have done it as well.

I have the information you require if you open a new thread under todays date.
