I just purchased a boat that came with a 1999 Mercury 4. HP for the kicker motor. As I was looking at the boat the owner started both motors so I could see them run. He ran them for about 10 minutes each putting them in gear and so on. He hooked the Mercury 4 hp up with a hose through the Flushing system I thought nothing of it as water was going to the engine. I got home opened the owners manual and while reading it I came across the page whee it shows how to flush the engine and it has in big letters NOTE: do not run the engine while flushing the cooling system.

Now that I know you are not suppose to run the engine that way and he did for about 10 minutes am I going to have problems?

I have a picture of the page from the owners manual to give you an idea of what I am talking about. Any advice would be great.

There is a good chance that your impeller is burned up. Other than a new impeller I doubt that you have a problem.

Thats just flushing the cooling system.
You have to have water when your running it on land. The flush system should push water back through the water pump.
When ever U buy a used motor the first thing U do is change the impeller and gear oil no mater how well it runs. That way U know for sure that it's OK. J
