I'm working on a 1996 Tracker 40hp and I'm trying to change the upper motor mount. With the trim all the way down, I can move the motor quite a bit with ease. The movement is coming from here (reference the image). Can someone confirm the upper mount is the problem and if so how do I replace it? Thanks a lot. 1000000628.jpg

Those are the upper mounts. The mounts are inside two castings of the exhaust extension that sandwich them.

You need to pull the powerhead off to get to them. Generally the bolts will not be reusable, due to corrosion. They are usually very strong (grade 8 ) steel bolts, with nylon locknuts and fine thread.

Source the mounts. After the shock of the OEM price wears off, see if Sierra makes them aftermarket. Replace the bolts with the exact length, diameter and strength of the originals. You will need a new powerhead base gasket as well.

I had those bolts loosen on my 84 115. I suspect an out of balance Stainless Prop caused enough Vibration to loosen them. It cost me a couple of Buckets of KFC, and a couple of cases of Barley Sandwiches, to get the Service Manager at my Dealer to do the repair, after hours one evening. Also found was slightly displaced Powerhead Gasket which allowed the 2 exhaust tuners to have an H Pipe between them. New Lockwashers, Nylon Locknuts and a lot of Red Loctite, and they never loosened again, at least till I traded it 12 yrs later
