Picked up a boat with a Mercury 500 Thundebolt 50hp, which I believe is a 1979, SN-5445548.
I was told it needed a stator and trigger. Ordered those, and an NOS MerCruiser control.
Now, the stator and trigger were already taken out by the previous owner. I'm mechanically inclined, but never worked on an old Merc. Pretty sure I got the trigger in correctly, but the stator is giving me problems. I think it may be the wrong one though. Does anyone have a picture of underneath the flywheel with the stator installed?
Also, did the guy screw me by taking it apart without marking anything? The flex plate is still attached to the flywheel, but I'm worried about timing issues once I get the stator installed.
