Mercury 60 Hp 2 Stroke Big Foot won't start when hot

MY first Post
After 8 years of perfect service my !997 Mercury is giving me fits. Engine starts in one revolution when cold It will also start quickly after a nice fast run to a fishing spot.
If I shut it off for 30 minutes however it will not always start.
I have tried no choke a little choke and a lot of choke at different times and it won't go. I cannot smell any gas so I don't think it is flooded after I choke it. Does a outboard emit gas fume smell when it is floods like the cars before fuel injection? I have even taken off the cover and still smell no gas.
After 30-60 minutes it will normally start but I have no confidence in the motor.
I have fresh fuel, new spark plugs, a new primer bulb and hose which holds pressure and the battery is strong.
I have switched tanks as well with no change.
My trusted long time dealer cannot explain what is wrong and says that replacing some parts is the only way to try to fix my problem.
Can anybody help that has had this problem by suggesting a logical order of what parts tp replace first?
I appreciate any response. I did post this story on a openned thread July 3 but got no response.
Thank You
tomh

have you tried pumping the bulb before you try to start? yes they smell like the cars did. could you stats be going and the engine running on the warm side, and evaporating the gas in the carbs when you stop? like a vapor lock. i'm grasping at straws.

Thanks for your reply. Because I never had to pump the gas line bulb when the engine is cold I never checked the bulb to see if it was hard when the engine is warm.
I'll give it a try.
I do know when the engine is running the bulb is kind of soft because the gas is flowing to the engine.

Not being much of a outboard troubleshooter (up till now didn't need to be) I don't know what a stat is. Can you explain what this is and give an opinion if you think that would be the first part to replace.
Thanks a lot for your ideas
Tom

the stat is the thermostat, that opens in the cooling system to keep the engine a optimum operation temperature. sorry i'm at a loss also. i hate to throw parts at an engine, with out a diagnosis, but you may have to. no one else has responded in 5 days, so i guess i'm the only one to admit i don't know.

edit: i'm not quiting, it's not in my nature, have you checked for spark on all plugs when it is acting up. it could be that some of the eletronics and getting warm
and failing.

i say this because when you turn an engine off its does, have a tendencey to heat up more and the water is not circulating, and takes a while to cool down. of courde i'm grasping at straws now. but it's a chance.. take someone with you who can help. like turn the key while you are checking the spark. or vice versa.
