I just rebuilt my 60 hp mercury 1995. I am not terribly familiar with timing lights, but at idle, I am showing 2-4 degrees to the left of "0" The thing idles great, and at wot I am about 20-21 degrees to the left of "0" My airbox cover states that timing should be 24 degrees BTDC at 3000 rpm and automatically sets back to 22 degrees at wide open throttle. It sounds great at top speed, but I don't think I could hear any problems anyway...
Am I O.K. with these numbers, or should I adjust my timing some still???
Thanks guys.
Aaron

P.S. If your motor sits outside and you have a 2 stroke oil injection with onboard tank, check your oil for water in it. Mine had about 4 ounces of water in it at the bottom, which was just enough to sieze my oil pump and burn up a block and pistons...Premix aint so bad after all!

Re: mercury 60 timing questions

It seems to be right. 24 @ 3000 rpm are for cranking speed. So flip the kill switch and look with the light while cranking with a fresh battery and it should show 24.
