I have a mercury 60elpt bass tracker. The trolling motor was wired to the same battery as motor overnight. It melted the terminal of the battery and wire from solenoid to starter. Changed battery and left trolling motor disconnected. I changed the starter an recently the solenoid. Now when I connect it to the battery. Starter constantly runs with key out ignition. I took off yellow/red wire off solenoid to check ignition. The starter stays engaged still. Question is, could it be the rectifier or could I have gotten a faulty solenoid from eBay? It wasn't used. Came out the box. Only difference is. It had brass instead of silver nuts. Note I don't have a meter. When I do any suggestions would be greatly appreciated thanks

If you wire things up without a wiring diagram or a full understanding then you get expensive smoke.----Sorry.

The solenoid I got from eBay for 20$ when I tighten the nut on one side. The bolt built-in the solenoid would spin. I just bought another one from a marine shop for 60$. I'll know tomorrow. If that'll work.
I wired everything the same way I took them off.

The contactor Is the wire going from solenoid to starter?
a contactor is what you are incorrectly calling a solenoid. a solenoid is a coild wound device used for mechanical movement. a contactor is a coil wound device for switching power.
