just purchased 89 basstracker with a merc 60hp and it wont attempt to start really think its a blown engine.had it turning over slow about 5 revoloutions and when i tried to turn the fly wheel by hand it wont but will turn with a wrench even with the plugs out.had starter out not the problem. Do have a buy on a 40hp force and was wondering if the merc controls will work that are on the basstracker as im getting none with the force.

Before I bought a new and smaller engine,,,,

I'd sure have someone a bit more knowelegable look at yours first.

Blown engines normally are either totally locked up, or the flywheel will turn like your lawnmower engine without a spark plug in it.

You might be buying a new engine--- and all that's wrong with yours is a bad battery connection, or weak starter.

Understand what your saying Winger Ed but this motor was to one shop and when i showed him the motor wouldnt turn by hand he didnt even want to look at it and told me i have internal problems.Like I said before it doese turn over with plugs out and a socket wrench on the head also in forward and reverse , netureal. Just seems it wont turn freely by hand.

Drop the lower unit and then see if she will turn over. Your problem could be a blown lower unit.

Guess you do know that the lower unit turns all the time the engine is running (does not matter what gear its in)? Thats why you should verify the lower is not the problem. If its not your looking at a powerhead overhaul. sorry
