Mercury 7.5 3450274 shift rod E clip missing.

From what I can see the shift rod bushing sits on the E clip to prevent the shaft from pulling out. It would be necessary to remove the bushing to replace the E clip. Would like to remove the bushing without damage. I dont have any special tools. Any suggestions.

Remove the lock screw.-----Use vice grip.-----Rotate bushing back and forth and pull up.
